News announcements in mainstream media (cnn, yahoo, & local news sources online and in print) have continued to inform the public of the dangers of the variety of children's "cold" medicines.  Whether OTC - "over the counter" or not, (and I suspect the recent emphasis on "OTC" meds is just preparing a public to feel the "need " to get a prescription from a doctor- the truth naturopaths have known for generations is that herbs and natural therapeutics do not only a much better job with the discomforts and symptoms of colds and flu, but we have the mindset and apothecary to offer PREVENTION as well.  Mothers informed about these methods never give their children the sugary, druggy symptom -suppressors sold in drug stores.  Check out two of our classes this year- one is offered four times- one specifically about children's HERBAL formulations, and our annual and popular (standing room only ! ) "Winter Medicine Making " generally offered in October, in time for prevention and consideration of winter ailments.  These classes are designed specifically for the general public , those interested in their own empowerment for health care.  Questions?  Call Mary Light, ND, MH, LMT any time with your questions and comments about this issue.  It is an important one, and we are glad to see a dangerous practice banned, while being able to offer the news of better, safer, and more effective  (although not new!) methods of holistic care for children and adults.
